A Date With Girls Aloud

Good news arrived on the doorstep this morning, in the form of 4 tickets to see Girls Aloud at Nottingham Arena!

I've arranged to go with 3 friends and I can't wait. I haven't told them that I nearly ripped up the envelope with the tickets in by mistake. shortly after they arrived thinking they were junk mail. I always rip envelopes before I throw them away; I really should learn not to do that. It will end in tears one day.

So me, Jo, Nic and Lucy are going off on May 12th to sing and dance with the girls, and to behave like crazed teenagers let out into the Nottingham night life for the first time without parental supervision.

It's going to be a scream!

All our male friends laughed at us when we told them we were going to see Girls Aloud. They thought it was hilarious. They were welcome to join us of course but flatly refused. Some were even quite juvenile about the whole thing!

Well Cheryl Cole has just been voted the FHM Sexist Woman in the World 2009. And one male friend, who shall remain nameless, has just asked if there are still tickets.

The answer is no. The gig sold out within days and any second hand tickets would be worth a fortune.

So who's laughing now, boys?!!

Flowers and Chocolate Factories

The Easter holidays have been great but I'm worn out so it's a relief that the schools re-open tomorrow, although IJ has announced this evening that she is not going. She was chuffed to receive a certificate last term for 100% attendance but has not decided that means she no longer needs to go.

There are likely to be tears in the morning.

We've enjoyed our two weeks together. After our trip to Manchester we celebrated my birthday. IJ told everyone I was 56 and so aged me by 20 years. Nothing could persuade her of this though. The best presents were a gorgeous diamond ring from my mother and Lady GaGa's album The Fame (well worth a listen).

But IJ and me are not a little fed-up of each other. I'm keen to get back to doing some work on the computer (and some blogging) and she just wants to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on DVD all day.

Could she be developing a soft spot for Johnny Depp? Or does she think the chocolate factory really exists? Anything is possible in her five-year-old imagination.

I dragged her away from Johnny today long enough to plant some seeds in the garden.

 

But IJ is confused.

She has planted the seeds and watered them, but where are the flowers?

 

Career Aspirations

Picture the scene, if you will.

It is seven o'clock in the evening. I am relaxing in front of the television watching Dancing on Ice with the lovely Phillip Schofield and too-glamorous Holly Willoughby.

I have sent IJ upstairs to locate her school tie for the morning. I can hear her rummaging around in her wardrobe taking a lot longer than expected.

By the time another 15 minutes has passed I am starting to wonder what she is doing.

And then she appears wearing a pair of hot pants and a too-tight pink High School Musical t-shirt that she has rolled up to show her tummy. She is also attempting to wear a pair of my high heels.

I tell her she looks lovely although I'm not too sure about the change of image.

Then she shows me her belly button and announces that she is a Pussycat Doll.

Now I am worried.
