Go for it. My daughter (the Queenager) has just gone off to university with Journalism as her major. (We're in the States.) Her interest started from photography, so I let her play with my (inexpensive) camera all the time; then she wanted to tell stories with her camera, and then she got into journalism.
The 2nd child, is all about punk rock, so we'll see how that goes....
Great to see her reading a newspaper. Start 'em young I say

My kids like First News too. They are particularly interested in the photos of weird things and news about Lego!
