I am not a driver but a learner driver and at the rate I am going, my daughter will have passed her driving test before me. But I persevere. My learner driver status makes me very unpopular at times with other drivers, especially on a Monday morning when I am driving at 20 mph in a 40 mph and practising my emergency stops. Even I lose patience with myself at times.
I have taken a keen interested in a new campaign - AXA Respect On The Road - created by AXA Car Insurance to try and bring courtesy and respect back to British roads and highlight the state of disrespectful and sometimes dangerous driving practices in the UK. Even with my limited driving experience I have witnessed many incidents of dangerous driving, and not on my part. It also puts our children at risk which makes highlighting the issue all the more important.
Their website has further details but they argue that all too often inexperienced drivers give themselves away behind the wheel of a car; they lose their manners and sometimes their marbles too. I beg to differ on that one. As an inexperienced driver myself, I would argue that experienced drivers lose their patience too.
For the campaign, AXA has created a Facebook page and taken to the streets of London in a black taxi to gather the opinions of the public in a series of videos called ‘Cab Cam’.
They have also produced this hilarious video ‘Road Rage kids’ where five-year-olds imitate their parents’ driving behaviour. It is definitely worth a watch!
Despite being classed as an inexperienced driver, I respect the road. Do you?

You'll get there in the end! Hopefully all learner drivers will hold this viewpoint.
