Now that IJ has turned seven, I am giving a little more thought to the things I write about her on this blog. Most importantly, whether she would approve or not, if it would embarrass her and how she would feel about discovering aspects of her life online.
Although she has seen the occasional picture of her here, and has reacted with great excitement, she does not really know what a blog is or what is written here. But soon she will be old enough to read it and even comment on it in the future, and the time will come when we need to discuss its content.
She may not want certain things written about her and specific topics may be out of bounds. We will have to discuss it, and if she objected to a post I would have to take it down.
Or she may encourage me to write about her and be excited to see it documented here. Who knows? It is certainly something we will have to discuss and I will have to respect her feelings.
Her viewpoint may change again when she reaches the teenage years because I still plan to be blogging then, although I expect the content will be quite a lot different in six years’ time. IJ may decide to start her own blog and write all about me.
There’s a thought.
Great post Rose. I have always asked my older boys if it's all right for me to blog about them.
Ooh, and get me! I'm the first to comment!

Yep - them writing about US. There IS a thought. Maybe I should stop blogging now?

Loved the last para re her blogging about you. I don't really write about the kids in a detailed way anymore. I figure the kids have enough to contend with me being a dating and relationship blogger whose personal blog was Tired Of Men...

Just get her to contribute her own posts :o)
A blog with parents and children debating their views and how they see the world - that would be a great read.

Now *that* is a very good idea!

Mine don't really read my blog, but there's definitely some stuff on there that could embarrass them!!
I'll just have to hope they never go through all the archives! (panics) xx

Ah yes. A certain post comes to mind! *decides to say no more*

I think I'll ask IJ when she is old enough to know what blogging is all about. In the meantime, I'll be conscious that she may want to read the archives on day, or she may not.

I may become suspicious if I say or do something rather embarrassing and my daughter eyes light up with the words 'blog fodder'. Yikes!

Oh god, I am now envisaging a nightmare scenario in which I have to edit my every action and word lest it be broadcast in my kids' blogs in years to come. Eek. It's giving me The Fear.

I do worry about what I write about my children and I always try to keep it as something they'd be happy to read when older. How funny that IJ might write a blog about you! Now I'd never thought about that happening, we have to watch it don't we?

I dread to think what Findlay would write about me. I've asked him recently if he'd like to write his own blog and he's interested, but only because he's seen the mountain of swag I brought back from CyberMummy.
