This morning I had the following conversation with my, usually pleasant and inoffensive, six-year-old child:
Child: Mummy, you are a dirty dick.
What the hell did she just say? Surely not.
Me: (spitting out cornflakes) I'm sorry?
Child: You are a dirty dick?
It really wasn't necessary to say it twice.
Me: (nervously, very nervously in fact) Er... where did you get that word from?
Child: (carries on as normal as if nothing offensive or alarming has been said at all.) You know, dick. DICK!
Me: Er... no I don't.
Child: Dick and Dom in the bungalow on CBBC!
Me: (hugely relieved) Oh yes, I see.
But hang on, why is she calling me dirty? And what has it got to do with those two clowns, who, incidently, go around shouting "Bogies" at inopportune moments?
Not quite the breakfast conversation I was expecting.
Thanks Dick and Dom. Thanks BBC!
I do wonder who writes the stuff for kids TV. I think it's grown men dressed in disheveled school uniforms, sitting backwards on their seats, a fag in their mouths, a can of Fanta by their side...
I linked to your single parent blogs post in my post today, I also flagged you in an article I wrote for One Space http://www.onespace.org.uk/articles/health-wellbeing/the-world-of-blogging as someone special!

HM,HB, yes I think you are right. The programmes are probably written by men
who never really grew up!! Thanks so much for the two mentions. I'm touched.

My nephew had two mice, and named them Dick and Dom, which rather brought them down to size in my mind.

Hee hee. Erin told in laws to "shut up" last weekend, turns out the girl in The Incredibles says it....

I'm not sure if I'd rather that or my 3 year old's latest word, 'bloody'!!
Tagged you over at mine x

I quite like Dick and Dom. Is that bad? Although I did not like Miss M shouting bogies outside Miss E's teachers wedding this Summer. Soooo embarrassing.
