The bad photography blog

Half a decade ago or so,  lovely Laura  tagged me in the 'interesting photos meme' which is the idea of talented photographer @ComicGirlie who can be found at Mocha Beanie Mummy and on her fabulous photography website.

So I am accepting the award that goes with this and renaming my blog The Bad Photography Blog since that is the direction it seems to be taking.

The rules are:

1. You must thank the person who has given you the award. Thanks Laura!
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you for the award.
4. Post seven photos about your life that people may find interesting.

Ready for Ten Election Meme

Ellen at Ready for Ten has tagged me in the election meme. This has proved slightly difficult as IJ, aged six, has very little understanding of what the election is all about despite my best efforts to explain it in an understandable fashion. So I have adapted the questions a little. The original questions appear in bold.

Why are we having an election? Why are we choosing someone to run the country?

Are we? Am I? Is the Queen not going to be doing it anymore?

If you were allowed to vote on Thursday, who would you pick and how would you decide? Who do you think should win and why?

Whoever has been good should win. I also think maybe the blue party should win because blue is your favourite colour, isn't it mummy? I don't really like yellow, but red is my favourite colour so actually I think they should win.

What laws to you think the new government should bring in? What should children be allowed to do that they are not allowed to do now?

Not go to school. Is that allowed? No? Oh, okay. I think children should be allowed to eat chocolate for breakfast and take scooters into school and go to bed when they want. I also think they should be allowed to eat junk. Lots of junk actually.

Should children be allowed to vote and why? Do you think you should be allowed to choose who runs the country?

Yes, no, I don't know. I like the red party. Will the man from the red party let me eat chocolate for breakfast?

I tell her no, he won't, and then she quickly loses interest in all things political.

Reasons to be grumpy

Defective TykeWriter has tagged me in the Seven things that make me grumpy meme, and I do love a good whinge.

So the things that make me grumpy (and I am limited to only seven - tut!) are:

1. Adverts for loans with 2000% interest rates that appear on children's digital TV channels followed by adverts on how to cope with debt problems. Wrong on so many levels.
2. Tweet-deck telling me to 'Relax' because I have exceeded my tweet limit. Just rude.
3. Spending slightly too long looking through the Next directory to then find my order will take 2-4 weeks to arrive. Highly annoying.
4. Having to frequently re-arrange delivery of Royal Mail parcels that get delivered when I am out on the school run. Frustrating.
5. The fact that I can't find Cadburys Creme Eggs anywhere. This is a crime.
6. Discovering my exciting delivery of mail is largely junk mail. And no, BT, I don't want to come back to you so please stop asking me every single month. Your resources could be better used elsewhere and you are wasting trees. Exasperating.
7. Discovering first thing in the morning after a bad night's sleep that I have run out of milk for my coffee. Ranked equally to discovering the only coffee available at my parents' house is decaffeinated. Enough to send me a little bit mad.

Completely useless information

Friends have often remarked that I am a fountain of knowledge meaningless information.

So when I saw that Tim was looking for snippets of trivia for his Did you know? meme,  I seized the opportunity to pass on some completely useless English Language  facts that will be of interest to absolutely no-one except me (because I am sad like that).

They were passed on to me from my daughter's deputy head teacher. If she is wrong despite her 40 years of teaching experience, then there is little hope for any of us and my daughter may need to move schools.

So let me bore you with these 'fascinating' facts:

• The word 'listen' contains the same letters as the word 'silent'.
• 'Almost' is the longest word in the English language with all the letters in alphabetical order.
• No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver or purple.
• 'Dreamt' is the only English word that ends in the letters 'mt'.
• There are only four words in the English language which end in 'dous': tremendous, horrendous, stupendous and hazardous.
• There are two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order: 'abstemious' and 'facetious'.
• 'Typewriter' is the longest word that can be made using the letters on only one row of the keyboard.
• The names of the continents all end with the same letter with which they start.
• The shortest English word that contains the letters A,B,C,D,E an F is 'feedback'.
• A spelling mistake in this post would look exceptionally bad.

And finally,

55 percent of people yawn within 5 minutes of seeing someone else yawn. Reading about yawning makes most people yawn.

What is really in my bag?

Lovely blogging friend and secret post club postee Susan has tagged me in a 'What's in your bag meme' where I have to disclose the contents of my handbag to the world.

As my bag is a relatively non-descript black holdall from Next that looks slightly pathetic under the camera lens, for the purpose of this blog post I am pretending that this is my bag:

It contains my current reading material - Alexander McCall Smith,  and my ideas book in preparation for the day in which a burst of creative inspiration hits me. As yet, there has been very little.

There is also the usual boring stuff - purse (empty-ish), an umbrella, an empty tube of Smarties, ladybird magnets (not mine) and my front door keys with the 'Best Mum' keyring I bought for myself (slightly sad):

Not really. I made the last entry up just in case the contents of my bag were sounding too dull.

My bag also contains my new fabulous Samsung Netbook, but I'm not including a photo of that. You may want it.

So that's it, apart from a few empty sweet wrappers stuck to the bottom, a lollipop stick that must have been there since the summer and a sock that does not belong to anyone I know.
