I’m a little disappointed to discover what really makes a great mum, in the eyes of one eight year old girl at least.
It isn’t those nights spent sitting up with her while she’s been unwell.
It isn’t the meals cooked, the clothes cleaned or the PE kits dropped off at school each time she’s gone off without them.
It isn’t the hours I’ve spent listening, supporting and reassuring.
It isn’t even my willingness to sit through endless episodes of Spongebob Squarepants.
As it turns out, what makes a great mum is this:
Walking from one end of London to the other and back again carrying a box of very heavy Scalextric. That impressive feat of endurance has finally won me an extra level of respect in the eyes of my daughter. I am now officially awesome.
Special thanks to Scalextric for inviting us to take a look at their range and for sending us home with our own box of Disney/Pixar Cars 2 race set. I am still tripping over it in our living room and hovering round it on a daily basis but it has proved a huge hit and gained me the status of being truly wonderful.
IJ has now got her eye on the Team GB Velodrome Cycling set and I’m pretty impressed with Scalextric digital where you can operate up to six cars on a digital circuit and even overtake and block other cars.
There are few things I would carry across London and back home on a train, but Scalextric has proved a worthwhile exception and we are well and truly hooked.
