Despite my attempts to do a little more home-cooking over recent weeks, no prizes will ever be awarded for my culinary efforts. I lack the desired commitment to really reach the stage where I can confidently hold a dinner party or produce anything I’d photograph and display on this blog.
Cooking for any length of time just isn’t me, so I wasn’t sure how I’d really take to the idea of slow cooking when Crock-Pot sent me the newest addition to their range. But the cooker turned out to be surprisingly easy to use and after the initial food preparations are done you can just walk away and leave it, which is my kind of cooking.
I’ve produced nothing more adventurous than chicken in a sauce with vegetables, and will admit that the sauce was shop-bought, but it’s a start. The Crock-Pot website has a range of recipes for those who like to be a little more adventurous, so I’m thinking Vegetable Biriyani and Chocolate Fondue might impress the family going forward.
For those foodies who are substantially more culinary inclined than me, Crock-Pot is on the hunt to find the nation’s most passionate cook with the launch of Crocktober – a competition where members of the public are invited to create a mouth-watering slow cooker recipe to be in with a chance of winning up to £3,500 worth of prizes.
Any recipe that can be cooked in a slow cooker can be entered, but if I was judging it would have to include chocolate. For more details visit www.facebook.com/CrockPotUK. The competition closes on October 21st. The public will vote for their favourite recipe and the winner will be chosen on October 28th.
Disclosure: We were sent a Crock-Pot free of charge for the purpose of this post. I’m very grateful but next time I’m hoping they’ll also send a chef.
