This really isn’t what you expect to see in the middle of a busy city centre, but when the heavens opened during a recent visit to Sheffield we decided to join the queue of people waiting to go inside, despite the fact that we had no idea what we were about to walk into.
Given that the ticket sellers appeared to work at the local cathedral, it was quite possible we were walking into some sort of organised religious worship never to emerge quite the same again.
Thankfully, on this occasion it proved to be absolutely fine. In fact we discovered something quite incredible inside.
It’s a Luminarium. Which I now know is a sculpture people enter to be moved by a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and colour, according to the Architects of Air website.
This isn’t a sponsored post as we are not that organised. We simply stumbled across the Luminarium completely by accident and it was incredible. We spent an hour and a half inside, walking around, relaxing and listening to the music being played through the speakers inside. We emerged relaxed and de-stressed and more than a little impressed with the structure.
For the record, the sculpture is at Sheffield Cathedral Forecourt until July 28th and regularly tours the country and venues overseas. We paid £3.50 each to get in. Definitely money well spent and not a religious preacher in sight.
