I don’t know a lot about Zippo or hand warmers but I agreed to try one out because it’s winter, it was free to review and I have cold hands (and a warm heart). Can’t say fairer than that.
I’m not great at following instructions either so had some difficulty lighting it, but with the help of a You Tube video I got it working in the end.
I did have some reservations about the hand warmer before trying it out. It’s a liquid-fuel warmer and I’ve no experience of using lighter fuel before so it made me a little nervous. I’ve also been paranoid about keeping both and fuel and the hand warmer away from little hands.
The hand warmer uses a lot of lighter fuel for its first use but once lit it uses very little and stays warm for up to 12 hours. Although the lighter fuel is odour-free, it did give off a slight odour.
The hand warmer has a platinum-catalysed glass fibre burner, which produces a radiant heat without a flame. I had imagined I’d be walking round with a flame in my pocket but of course it wasn’t like that at all.
The hand warmer does get hot once lit so needs to be kept in a small warming bag that comes with it. There is also no way of cooling it down once lit.
Despite my initial reservations and my difficulty in getting it to light, I have grown to love it. On a cold day it is perfect and for those who spend time outdoors it’s ideal. The design is slick and the profile of the hand warmer very thin so it easily slips into a pocket. It’s a bit like carrying around your own mini water bottle except it stays warm all day.
Before trying it I wouldn’t have bought one, but I’ve tried it, I like it and I’d happily invest in one now. I’d be careful to keep it away from children and the lighter fuel out of reach, but this product has exceeded my expectations and won’t part with it now until the summer.
The Zippo hand warmer is priced at £20.99.
Oh I'd be a bit concerned about this too, but sounds like it works well though... great, honest review. Thanks :)
