With the recent thaw came the surprising discovery that a parcel had been sitting in our garden, covered in snow, for over two weeks. It was found, looking slightly worse for wear, by our window cleaner just after Christmas.
Inside and completely intact despite the weather conditions was a pair of Hotter walking boots. While the rest of the package was soaking wet, the boots were absolutely fine.
I’d been sent them to review and had been wondering why they hadn’t arrived, especially as they would have been perfect for getting about in the bad weather. Typical that they should have been there, practically under my nose all that time!
The pair I was sent was Terra Gore-Tex walking boots, RRP £85.
I wore them for two weeks and then handed them over, with some reluctance, to my mother. She was a little over-excited the last time I got a pair of Hotter shoes but on that occasion I kept them.
This time I discovered that she had slipped on the ice recently as a result of wearing shoes with no grip, so guilt kicked in and she is now wearing Hotter instead.
The shoes are incredibly comfortable; there was no need to ‘break them in’. They are very light and great for the outdoors.
According the Hotter Shoes website they have plenty of padded support to the ankles makes Terra the perfect all-terrain boot. Thanks to GORE-TEX® humidity control, not a drop of water gets in, but your feet breathe and stay fresh. Ideal for autumn at the Lakes or winter walks in the snow.
Not all the shoes on the Hotter website are for me, as yet, but these were great and ones I would definitely wear, if I still had them.
Full disclosure: I was sent a free pair of Hotter shoes to review.

That's hilarious ! I reviewed the same ones on my blog (in tan) and they're brilliant for walking about in the ice and snow, so your mum will love them. (My review is here if you want to compare notes : http://madhousefamilyreviews.blogspot.com/2010/12/hotter-shoes-keswick-womens-gore-tex.html )

Thanks Cheryl. Unbelievable that they were buried in the garden all that time! Love your review. I chose the blue colour because I thought they went well with jeans. But then I ended up giving them to my mother! Very relieved to hear they will be great on the ice. My mum's leg was quite bruised after her fall and really wouldn't want that happening again.

Awww Rosie your poor Mum. My dad also fell in the snow. Bless 'em, we'll have to get them some of those reins. ;D

How annoying that they were there all the time, but how impressive that they were still dry and ready-to-wear when you found them!
