It has been a month of planning, packing , visa applications and vaccinations in preparation for my overseas trip. But life has not been completely taken over by my forthcoming travels; there have been other things going on too, including some of the following:
Indulging in the hideously moreish Respect Organics cakes and managing to eat an entire carrot cake on my own, although not in one sitting.
They are available in most supermarkets priced £2.00 or less and we would definitely buy them again, especially the chocolate variety.
Surfing the new Family Vie website. It's a social bookmarking site where parents share interesting stories they have found from around the Internet. These are then voted for by other parents so the most popular ones rise to the top of the homepage. It's a concept I had not heard of before but I like the idea and think it's a site worth visiting and contributing to. It is attractive, easy to navigate and full of regularly updated content of relevance to families.
Testing the Ila Dusk personal alarm from Ila security. It's made me think carefully about whether an alarm is something I should be carrying about and these ones certainly look quite sleek.
The one I tried does the job - it emits a high decibel female scream to shock and disorientate an attacker - but my choice would be a hand-held one rather than something you attach to a keyring, and I had concerns about losing the pin once it was pulled out which would render the product unusable. I carried an alarm while at university and believe they are something worth looking into especially for anyone travelling alone late at night.
Studying the layout of Heathrow Airport which I am attempting to navigate tomorrow afternoon. After staying in a hotel for half a night I'm joining my party at silly o'clock in the morning, high on coffee and excitement to fly to Cameroon and desperately hoping my luggage makes the journey too. There is a small chance it may not and I may been seen wearing ill-fitting clothes in the photographs that do not belong to me. Eek.
A bientôt!
