This evening, for the second time in recent months, IJ has sat next to me and given me a look of total disapproval.
The first time was earlier this summer when I developed a bad case of hiccups on the packed train back from our holiday in Oxford. Her look then said, "You are just so embarrassing." She may have even tutted.
This evening was much the same except this time the look of disapproval said, "You know absolutely nothing." She looked at me with a mixture of disapproval and pity.
She is six years old, my 36 years of life experience are wasted on her.
Her reaction this evening followed a seemingly innocent conversation which went like this:
IJ: Mummy, I really like pink.
Me: Do you? That's good because you have alot of pink things.
IJ: (After a deep in take of breath) Not pink, pink.
Me: Yes I know, pink.
IJ: Pink, like "This used to be a fun house, now it's full of evil clowns, I'm going to burn it down."
And then the penny dropped.
She didn't mean pink, she meant Pink with a capital P.
It is wrong on so many levels. That's the last time she uses my iPod.
That song has a rather unpleasant swearword in it. And she can't go around threatening to burn down houses.
Whatever next?
